FEED EVENTS ANNOUNCED FOR “ORANGE, HAT & GRACE”

We continue our mainstage FEED discussions with some exciting events planned around the world premiere of Greg Moss’s ORANGE, HAT & GRACE. This FEED cycle ranges in its themes from the natural world and man, old American music, the art of playwrighting and the study of language in feral children. These talks are as eclectic as we can make them. See you at the theater for any or all of them.

FEED events are free and open to the public. You do not need a ticket for the show, simply show up on the day at the advertised time.

FEED events coming for ORANGE, HAT & GRACE

Join FEED in September and October when we present new post-show discussions for Greg Moss’s ORANGE, HAT & GRACE. We will be welcoming some very special guests as we turn our attention to an array of subjects including: the natural world versus man, how feral children develop language and how music influenced the writing of the play.

These are only a few of the themes we will be exploring as part of our FEED postshow discussions.

Also new for this production is our first Creative Team Talk. These will be informal opportunities for you, the audience, to listen to the production’s creative team speak about the making the mainstage production.

Some Thoughts on Music in THE TRUTH: A TRAGEDY

Music plays a major role in Cynthia Hopkins’ The Truth: A Tragedy. From sea shanties to Mahler, the play runs the gamut of musical forms and idioms. In Praise of…Dan Lefranc

A hearty congratulations to 2008/2009 season playwright and Writer/Director Lab alumnus Dan LeFranc for winning the prestigious New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award.

To celebrate, FEED has produced a slide show interview in which Dan speaks about his plays, his singular use of illustration and text, as well as the rewriting process. Learn about what stimulates this hyper imaginative writer and take a look at some of the influences that have gone into his plays, including the play the NY Times sited in their award, Sixty Miles to Silverlake. Welcome to ‘Evelyn Evelyn’!

Soho Rep is excited to announce its association with the brilliant singer Amanda Palmer (of the famed Boston rock band The Dresden Dolls). Amanda will be bringing her new project to The Lucille Lortel Theatre EVELYN EVELYN: A evening of Musical Entertainment with the World-Famous Conjoined Twin Sisters: Evelyn & Evelyn Neville with Soho Rep as a presenting partner. In praise of… The Writer/Director Lab

As we launch the 2010 Writer/Director Lab, here’s a video featuring past and current Chairs of the Lab. Take a short peek at what goes into choosing the Lab members and what the process is all about. Watch our trio of Lab gurus speak about some particularly memorable works to have come out of the program. This video features Maria Goyanes (Director of Special Projects at The Public Theater) who chaired the Lab from 2006 to 2008, as well as the current Co-Chairs: the dramaturg Danny Manley and the playwright Kate E. Ryan.

Enjoy these salient exhibits about John Hopkins (Cynthia’s father), which were personally selected for your viewing delectation by the great performer herself. We invite you to watch a promo video for our US premiere production in May, “The Truth: A Tragedy” by performer-musician Cynthia Hopkins.

This, her newest piece, looks at a multitude of subjects ranging from German “wonder cabinets”, the 17th century phenomenon of collecting incredibly personal objects and displaying them; to Parkinson’s disease and what makes a contemporary tragedy. (read more)
